About us

A Memphis organization built around one simple belief

That a veteran who has served this country should not have to wonder where they will sleep next month.

Our mission

Our veterans built our freedom. Now it’s our turn to build their future.

Cantare Veterans Housing Solutions is committed to providing quality, affordable housing for veterans, creating stable living environments that empower them to rebuild, thrive and achieve their goals.

We are not a referral service and we are not a waiting list that leads nowhere. We provide the accommodations ourselves — real homes, in and around Memphis, offered to veterans at a rent they can actually sustain.

That distinction matters. It means when you talk with us, you are talking with the people who will hand over the keys. There is no one further up the chain to wait on, and no one to blame when something takes too long.

“Instability is exhausting. When the address stops changing, everything else becomes possible again.”

How we go about it

Four things we hold to, whatever the situation in front of us looks like.

Dignity first

A veteran has already given enough. Nothing about asking for a decent place to live should cost them their pride — so nothing about how we work will.

Plain talk, no runaround

No jargon, no forms in triplicate, no being passed between offices. You talk to a person who can actually make a decision, and she tells you the truth.

Housing that holds up

A home is only affordable if it is also livable. Ours are maintained and ready, and the rent is set so a veteran can stay rather than scrape.

Steadiness over speed

The goal is not to place someone quickly and move on. It is to give them a base solid enough to build the rest of their life on.

A conversation is a fine place to start

You do not need to know the right words, or have a case file ready, or be certain you qualify for anything. Call Tammie, tell her what is going on, and she will take it from there.

If we can help, we will say so and get moving. If we genuinely cannot, we will tell you that too — and point you somewhere that can.
